I thought I would share how our firm got here, how I came to represent injured individuals all over the United States, and how I apply that experience to help our clients. For almost 20 years, I was hired by some of the largest insurance companies in the world to represent companies accused of hurting someone due to their negligence. It was challenging work and I was successful at it.

However, as time went by, I realized something. While the individual claims handlers with whom I worked were fine people, some of the companies that hired me were really worried about one thing: the bottom line. These companies did not care about the well-being of the person hurt or the long-term future of their families. They were only worried about the bottom line and how to resolve a case by spending as little as possible. To them, the person who was hurt was just a number in a group of numbers that were added together to make sure the company and its shareholders brought in more money than it spent. This was not all insurance companies, but it was enough to make me realize I was more interested in helping a person and their families than some multi-billion dollar company.

Thus, the evolution of my practice comes as a natural progression, driven by my desire to help individuals who have suffered injuries due to negligence. I shifted from working exclusively with insurance companies to applying my knowledge of how the insurance companies work to my client’s cases. Unlike other lawyers who have never worked for the insurance companies, I understand how the insurance companies evaluate claims. I know their decision making process and have first hand knowledge of how insurance companies handle different types of accidents and injuries, even down to the buzzwords that need to be included in our letters to escalate consideration of our client’s claims. I have the other side’s playbook and I use that to maximize our client’s recovery.
